Medical devices deliver a tremendous amount of data that is critical to patient care. Without direct integration to the electronic health record (EHR), data transfer is often complex and time-consuming, which in turn can affect patient safety. When the University of Missouri Health set out to meet this challenge, they employed a comprehensive approach to device integration that included the introduction of automated patient-to-device association with a solution from Cerner and Spacelabs. The results, as detailed in a recent Medical Device Connectivity Case Study, demonstrate a significant reduction in error rates related to manual entry, faster availability of EHR data, and reduced clinical workloads.
Highlights Include:
- Streamlined ADT workflow from 17 steps down to just 7, allowing more time for an increased focus on patients and care.
- Reduction in reported device association errors by 57 percent between 2010 and 2015.
- Savings of 5,120 hours annually in time spent on documentation as a result of Spacelabs device integrations with Cerner.
