Key questions about cybersecurity
Cybersecurity is a key consideration when choosing a patient-monitoring and diagnostics system. Here are important questions to ask yourself and your provider up front:
- What are your product’s security controls?
- Will you have access to my hospital’s data?
- How are your devices protected when connected to the network?
- Will your support team access our network remotely? If so, what security controls are in place?
- How will software and firmware updates be handled?
- Who’s managing the access controls of these devices?
- Who handles monthly patching?
Certified to rigorous standards
Our medical devices and software solutions are designed and developed to align with the National Institute of Standards and Technology’s 800-53 and DISA Secure Technical Implementation Guidance (STIG). They are also compliant with appropriate FDA and MDR guidelines.
In addition, Spacelabs has earned the much-coveted Defense Health Agency (DHA) Authority to Operate certification for its patient monitoring devices, enabling DHA facilities to purchase and use our technologies. To achieve certification, our systems underwent extensive testing and hardening against internal security and privacy standards.
Cybersecurity across your clinical operations
Outsourcing arrhythmia analysis, for example, can create potential security vulnerabilities, as patient data is transferred between different parties. It’s why we designed our arrhythmia diagnostics systems to automatically hide sensitive patient-specific information when third parties are conducting their analyses – and restore it when the data when it comes back in-house.
“If you can integrate cloud-based services into your overall system, into your EMRs and everything else, your possibilities become almost limitless.”
