Health system’s adoption of the Rothman Index shows decrease in unplanned transfers to the ICU

During the COVID-19 pandemic, NorthBay Health in Solana, California, replaced MEWS with the Rothman® Index to improve overall clinical surveillance. After adoption, there was a 16% decrease in mortality rate and 30% decrease in unplanned transfers to the ICU, resulting in financial savings from prevented, avoidable ICU days.

“Our patients don’t do a lot of proactive health, so we’re seeing people when they’re really sick,” says NorthBay Health’s chief medical officer.
